The speaker and the listener went to the same college, the listener studying journalism. The speaker dropped out sophomore year, seemingly without explanation. But the listener thinks they know why: they saw the speaker beat up Jeffrey, a fraternity brother, pretty badly. Jeffrey died the next day from heart complications, and the listener connected dots and always assumed the speaker killed him. What the listener didn’t know was that Jeffrey had secretly recorded himself having sex with a girl he’d hooked up with and shared the video with his frat buddies. When the speaker confronted him, they fought. The speaker was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and forced to leave college. The case stayed confidential. Rumors spread that the speaker killed someone while high and his wealthy family got the charges dropped. Since then, he’s kept a low profile and works hard at the animal shelter his family funds. Now, reuniting with the speaker, the listener wants to find out what really happened that night and the truth is more than what they know.
