Drawing inspiration from the global popularity of Regency-era dramas like Bridgerton, the production leverages the authentic British narration of lead actor Boons to heighten the series’ historical immersion. This aesthetic choice provides a sophisticated, "Gaslamp Fantasy" backdrop for the listener’s role as the royal heir, offering fans a dark, supernatural twist on classic courtly tension and forbidden desire.
Rika, the series producer, shared insights into the creation of this first F4M series for MagicWave:
"This is actually the first F4M series I've worked on since all my previous projects were M4F. I personally handpicked Boons as the next VA series I'll work on as a challenge. The audience for F4M is completely different from M4F audio, so I treated this as an opportunity to explore different demographics. During my research, I reached out to Feranvenn, an MW VA with over five years of experience, to ask what people usually gravitate toward in F4M audio. I learned that intimacy is more important than plot buildup, and the best way to approach this is to focus on the sensual push-and-pull between the speaker and listener, rather than the emotional buildup typical of M4F audios. People want that spicy tension right off the bat."
Rika also noted the influence of Regency-era aesthetics and dominant female character dynamics:
"I focused on creating a Regency-themed series for Boons since Bridgerton is quite a trendy topic. And of course, with Regency-themed media, British accents are expected. The succubi and fantasy elements were inspired by my interest in dominant female personas in spicy romantasy novels, combined with Boons’ professional experience portraying dominant females. F4M audiences tend to enjoy being 'babied', 'comforted', and 'topped', which guided how we shaped the story."
Expanding Representation in Audio Storytelling
Female voice actors have historically had limited visibility in this genre," said Joan He, Executive Producer and General Manager at MagicWave. "While much of the audience is female, the content has largely been male-voiced. We see a clear opportunity to expand formats like F4M, F4F, and F4A, which remain underserved. This series is an important step toward broadening representation and choice for listeners.
